As the landscape for documentary storytelling expands, the need to be able to tell our stories on multiple screens is fast becoming a reality. Agencies, game companies, publishing companies, educators, broadcasters - they are all talking about the need to capture audiences with well crafted meaningful stories and cross-platform roll outs. Sure there are a lot of unknowns but at the docSHIFT Summit we are proposing it’s time for documentary filmmakers to boldly leverage our incredible ability to tell real stories and position ourselves as the go-to people in this new and evolving marketplace.

Tax Credits Workshop with the OMDC - Oct 5

A workshop for documentary producers with Jennifer Blitz, Director of Tax Credits & Financing at the Ontario Media Development Corporation. Ms. Blitz will do a hands-on presentation about the process of applying for Ontario Film and Television Tax Credits. featuring hypothetical case studies and strategies to help you maximize your returns. Documentary producer Jeannette Loakman (Peep Culture, Cat Ladies) will moderate.
DOC Night Out Screening - Cat City, Oct 2nd
On any given night in Toronto it is estimated that over 100,000 lost, abandoned and feral cats roam the city streets. Never spayed or neutered these cats produce thousands of offspring adding to the burgeoning number of homeless pets. On October 2nd, DOC Toronto presents a screening of Cat City for the Culture Days edition of DOC Night Out, followed by a Q&A with director Justine Pimlott and Dr. Hanna Booth, DVM, Board Director at the Toronto Humane Society. The discussion will be moderated by filmmaker Mark Terry (Antarctica Challenge).
DOC Toronto presents a TIFF Special: Frederick Wiseman: Master Filmmaker, in conversation with Kevin McMahon
The DOC Toronto Masters' Series is proud to announce an upcoming Master Class with Frederick Wiseman, "one of today's greatest living documentary filmmakers"(Phillipe Pilard, La Sept/Arte). The American filmmaker has created some of the most affecting and renowned observational documentaries of the past 40 years, such as Highschool, Titicut Follies, and Near Death, among many others.
DOC Night Out: Debt Trap July 5
Join us on July 5th for a screening of Debt Trap, directed by DOC Toronto Member David Adkin. The documentary explores what it means to feel maxed out--smothered by a growing burden of credit card payments, loans, mortgages and other debts.
David Adkin and the film's producer Howard Fraiberg will be in attendance, and will participate in a discussion moderated by fellow filmmaker Maureen Judge.
