Friday April 9, 6pm

Now in it’s 5th year, the Emmy-nominated International Documentary Challenge returns to the Hot Docs Canadian International Documentary Festival in Toronto. This year's challenge took place March 4-8, 2010 with the Hot Docs premiere of the Finalists on May 2. Join us for a sneak preview of the Toronto-based films produced as part of this year’s International Documentary Challenge.
The Doc Challenge is a fun and innovative competition that pushes documentary filmmakers to the limit. If you're new to the idea, it's very simple: Filmmakers from around the world are given a genre (Character Study, Music, 1st Person, etc.) and a theme (such as "Change".) Participants then have 5 days to develop, produce and edit a 4 to 7 minute non-fiction film. The result is an exhilarating five days for the filmmakers, and, as the films reveal, a joy for the audiences at Hot Docs and beyond. The Perfect Pitch: Selling your Story
Centre for Social Innovation: 215 Spadina Avenue
Monday April 12, 6:30-10PM
$15 for Members / $25 for Non-Members
Like it or not, in documentary, the story pitch is priceless. With the Toronto Documentary Forum just around the corner, DOC Toronto is putting on an evening workshop dedicated to the art and science of pitching. How do you prepare, hone, and deliver a pitch? What is the difference between pitching to a panel of film and TV execs and pitching on-the-fly? How do you navigate the festival market?
Industry veterans Ed Barreveld (Storyline Entertainment) and Robert Lang (Kensington Communications), along with a commissioning editor (TBA) will be on hand to answer all these questions and more as they deliver presentations and provide helpful feedback. Don’t miss the chance to perfect your pitch heading into Hot Docs!docSHIFT Networking Night & Info Session
